AMI Wins NJBIA Award for Excellence

Atlantic Medical Imaging (AMI) has been named as a recipient of the prestigious New Jersey Business & Industry Association’s (NJBIA) 2013 Business of the Year Award. AMI was recognized in the Public Service category for its continuing commitment to the communities it serves through the activities of the AMI Foundation.

Founded in 2003, the AMI Foundation’s mission is to identify and develop opportunities to enhance the quality of life and improve the level of healthcare for community residents through education, programs and philanthropic endeavors.

Since its inception, the AMI Foundation has donated more than $800,000 to worthy non-profits charitable causes that support community health and human service initiatives.  In late 2011, the Foundation began funding free lung cancer screenings for community members at risk for the disease.  The importance of this program was underscored by a report issued by the American Cancer Society showing that men and women living in Atlantic, Cape May, Cumberland and Ocean counties have lung cancer rates exceeding the state average.

By detecting malignant tumors at an early stage, intervention can occur at a time when the cancer is still curable and localized to the lungs, and the National Cancer Institute indicates annual screenings can reduce the risk of death from lung cancer by 20 percent.

Last year, AMI was recognized by the Lung Cancer Alliance for meeting its National Framework for Lung Screening Excellence by offering these life-saving screenings for those at risk for lung cancer.  AMI is one of the select few outpatient imaging centers in the United States to earn that distinction.

The AMI Foundation has also provided funding for the past several years to enable AMI to offer free screening mammograms in October to uninsured women over 40 in conjunction with Breast Cancer Awareness Month. As with lung cancer, early detection of breast cancer saves lives, so these free screenings can have a profound impact on people’s lives and the health of the community.

AMI continuously promotes giving and volunteerism throughout all of its office locations in Atlantic, Cape May, Ocean and Monmouth counties, effectively engaging employees, patients and office visitors.

Since 1984, NJBIA annually has honored a select group of its members with an Award for Excellence. The Awards for Excellence winners demonstrate outstanding achievements in one of four award categories: Business Expansion, Environmental Quality, Outstanding Employer, and Public Service.   All 21,000 NJBIA member companies in good standing are eligible to be nominated.

Award for Excellence winners are selected by an independent panel of judges, comprised of representatives of SCORE – Counselors to America’s Small Business, and selected NJBIA members. The accounting firm of Mercadien P.C. verified the information supplied by the winning applicants.
