AMI Foundation Mammo Van
Now the Dr. Jan Astin Mobile Digital Mammography Van will continue its mission of making life-saving screening mammograms more accessible to women in southern and central NJ.
Atlantic Medical Imaging (AMI) has assumed operations of the former AtlantiCare RNS Mobile Digital Mammography Van. Under AMI’s direction, and with funding from the AMI Foundation, the newly named Dr. Jan Astin Mobile Digital Mammography Van will continue to offer life-saving screening mammograms to women throughout southern and central New Jersey.
“We are very pleased and proud to undertake responsibility for the operation of the Mobile Mammography Van,” said Dr. Robert Glassberg, President and CEO of AMI. “AMI has been a nationally recognized leader in mammography and breast imaging for many years. Operating the mobile van will enable us to extend our outreach efforts further and continue the important work done by AtlantiCare during the past 20 years of service by the Van.
“We are grateful to the RNS Cancer & Heart Fund (RNS) and Susan G. Komen for their continued support of the Mobile Van and its mission,” added Dr. Glassberg. Additional financial support will be provided by the AMI Foundation.
“We recognize the need in our service areas for a non-traditional mammography program and the responsibility that is inherent in that,” added Dr. Glassberg. “We are ready to accept that responsibility, and proud of the trust that the community has placed in us to carry the program forward. We are also proud that the Van will be named in honor of Dr. Jan Astin, a founding partner of AMI, whose commitment to improving the health status of the communities we serve was extraordinary.”
AMI Foundation Mammo Van
The mammography van will continue to offer easily accessible screening mammograms to women in Atlantic, Cape May, Cumberland, Gloucester and Salem counties. Under AMI, the van will also now travel to Ocean and Monmouth Counties. Within 30 minutes, a woman can have a screening mammogram at a location close to their home or workplace, regardless of their ability to pay.
The Mobile Digital Mammography Van is one of only a handful of mobile mammography vans in the country, and only one of two in New Jersey. Originally launched in 1993, the van was replaced in 2007 with a brand new, state-of-the-art vehicle offering enhanced digital technology through a generous grant from RNS.
AMI has been designated a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology (ACR). This ACR gold seal of accreditation signifies that AMI provides services in accordance with the highest standards of the radiology profession.
Each year, AMI’s team of breast imaging specialists reads over 40,000 mammograms and performs more than 1,000 minimally invasive breast biopsies. AMI’s 38 physicians are all board-certified and are backed by a dedicated team of 400 support staff in nine offices throughout Alantic, Cape May, Ocean and Monmouth Counties.
The American Cancer Society recommends that women have yearly mammograms starting at age 40. The Dr. Jan Astin Mobile Digital Mammography Van offers women a screening mammogram in less than 30 minutes. Most forms of insurance are accepted, including Medicare and Medicaid. The van is accredited by the American College of Radiology and the Food and Drug Administration and is supported by a grant from the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, as well as the RNS Cancer & Heart Fund and the AMI Foundation.
